Aftercare Essentials: Maintain & Maximize Your Results

We have designed our treatments at Azure Dream MedSpa to give you stunning results, but your aftercare plays a key role in helping to maximize those benefits. Aftercare can help improve your results, skin recovery, and any potential side effects. Keep your skin radiant and rejuvenated after your visit by following our expert aftercare guidelines.

Try to exercise your treated muscles for the first hour after treatment (e.g. practice frowning, raising your eyebrows or squinting). This helps to work the treatment into your muscles. Although this may help your procedure outcome, it will NOT impact your treatment negatively if you forget to do this.
Do NOT have a facial, nor rub or massage the treated area for 24 hours after your treatment.
Do NOT lie down or do strenuous exercise for three hours after treatment. Also, avoid any exposure to a sauna, hot tub or tanning for four hours. This will prevent your blood pressure from rising and thus minimize the risk of bruising after treatment.
Please be aware that some, though very few patients, experience a mild headache. You may take Tylenol to help with this for pain relief.
Be assured that tiny bumps or marks will go away within a few hours after your treatment. There is a small risk of bruising. If this occurs, do not worry since it will only be temporary and can easily be covered up with makeup. Any little bit of bruising may last up to one week.
After Botox is placed into the targeted muscles, the weakening effect gradually begins anywhere from 3-7 days and is not complete for two weeks. Therefore, optimal results are not seen for at least two weeks.
Botox will last approximately 2-3 months at first. However, if you maintain your treatment appointments with the frequency recommended, the duration of each treatment result may last longer than four months.

Swelling, bruising, tenderness, numbness, and areas of firm nodules may occur.
Cosmetic fillers are long lasting, but not permanent. Longevity depends on the areas treated and your body’s metabolism.
DO NOT massage, touch, or manipulate the injection site. Avoid heavy exercise the day of your treatment.
Ice packs may be used on the treated area during the first 12 hours. Ice for 15 minutes every hour.
Avoid dental work for 30 days after filler injections.
Avoid sleeping on your side or stomach for 24 hours post-treatment to prevent dispersing the product. We recommend you sleep elevated on your back and use pillows to stabilize yourself.
If experiencing swelling, sleep with your head elevated for 2-3 days to decrease swelling.
You may take acetaminophen/Tylenol if you experience any mild tenderness or discomfort.
Wait a minimum of four weeks (or as directed by your provider) before receiving any skin care or laser treatments.
For most patients, the benefits of dermal fillers can be enhanced by using a medical-grade skincare system. Please contact your provider or a member of the staff for product recommendations.
If you experience bruising, Arnica gel can be topically applied to help bruising resolve at a faster rate; take 5 tablets three times per day (this can be started 1 week prior to injections).
If you notice onset of any of these symptoms, call our office immediately at 703-243-4343 to speak with a provider. After hours, you will be connected with a medical provider through our answering service.

Place a cold compress or ice pack on the area for 20 minutes and remove the cold compress or ice pack for 20 minutes. Continue this pattern as needed for 24 hours.
Use Arnica to help decrease bruising, swelling, and discomfort. (Available at the Front Desk)
Do not consume steroids (such as prednisone), NSAIDs (like Motrin or Aleve), alcohol, caffeine, niacin supplements, high-sodium foods, high-sugar foods, refined carbohydrates, or spicy foods for 24 to 48 hours after your treatment, as they can increase inflammation, sensitivity, and interfere with the healing process.
Avoid vigorous exercise, sun and heat exposure for 3-5 days after treatment.
Drink plenty of water and fluids after treatment.
Sleep on your back and with your head elevated for the next 3-5 days after treatment.
Take (over the counter) acetaminophen if needed to decrease post treatment discomfort.
Please report to your practitioner immediately if you develop an asymmetric smile or facial muscle weakness, skin ulceration in the treatment area, difficulty swallowing, or if any existing symptom worsens. These are very rare.

Do not expose yourself to the sun after your micro-needling procedure, as your skin channels are fully open and highly sensitive, making them more susceptible to irritation and potential damage from UV rays, while also allowing harmful toxins from lotions, including sunscreen, to penetrate deeper and cause adverse reactions.
Do not use any skincare products containing active ingredients such as Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Retinol, or similar agents after your procedure, as your skin will be highly sensitive, and these products may cause irritation, discomfort, or unwanted reactions during the healing process.
Use Collagen Stimulating Peptides after your micro-needling procedure to support the skin’s healing process, as micro-needling boosts collagen production, and these peptides provide the necessary building blocks to enhance regeneration, promote faster recovery, and maximize your results.
Do not apply makeup for at least 24 to 48 hours after your treatment, as your skin needs time to breathe and recover, and the open skin channels can easily absorb bacteria and irritants, increasing the risk of irritation, clogged pores, or infection, especially if using previously used makeup brushes that may introduce contaminants.
Use an antioxidant serum after your treatment to promote healing, as its soothing properties help calm the skin, reduce irritation, and provide essential protection against environmental stressors, supporting a faster and more effective recovery.
Do not engage in activities that cause sweating after your treatment, as sweating can reopen your pores, allowing bacteria to enter the skin punctures, which may lead to irritation, adverse reactions, or infection.
Drink plenty of water before and after your procedure to keep your skin hydrated, support the healing process, and promote faster rejuvenation for optimal results.

Immediately after treatment, YOU will have redness and swelling (a few hours).
You will experience lifting and toning of the treated area, however optimal results require 6-8 treatments, spaced 1-2 weeks apart.
SPF and makeup can be applied immediately after treatment.
There are no restrictions on bathing or using topical products.
The use of sun block SPF 30+ at all times is important with avoiding sun exposure for one week after treatment. In addition, the use of SPF should be maintained daily.
Discomfort Excessive skin redness (erythema) and/or swelling (edema)
Damage to natural skin texture (crust, blister, burn)

Apply ice and pressure throughout the first 24 hours. Ice application can be for 10 minutes at a time, 3-5 times throughout the first 24 hours. This will help minimize swelling and pain.
You may shower immediately and resume all normal activities.
If you get a scab, DO NOT pick the scab. The longer the scab stays on, the better the wound / scar will heal.
Most patients do not have a great deal of pain after the procedure. If you have discomfort, you should take Tylenol® (acetaminophen) and can apply ice to the area for 10 minutes.
The use of sun block SPF 30+ at all times is important with avoiding sun exposure for one week after treatment. In addition, the use of SPF should be maintained daily.
Call us if you get the following symptoms: • Pain that gets worse a few days after the procedure • A lot of swelling • Persistent bleeding - If you have bleeding, apply firm pressure over the gauze pad for 20 minutes. If it doesn’t stop after 20 minutes, apply pressure again for 20 minutes. If after 40 minutes, bleeding persists, call your doctor. It is normal to have some blood on your gauze pad after the procedure. • A temperature above 100.5 for 24 hours. • Redness, warmth, swelling, pus-like drainage at site.

The peeling may take anywhere from 7-10 days on average or longer depending on internal and external factors such as skin type, age, weather, lifestyle, and hormones. Slight redness and skin sensitivity and flaking can occur as your treatment eliminates dead surface skin cells. Each treatment may vary. Other areas of the body will react differently because your skin has a different texture on your face and scalp than on your chest, back, arms, and legs. The healing process may take longer in those areas.
Your skin may take on a rough, patchy, darkened quality a few days after this treatment. This is normal and expected and it will resolve on its own. The first areas to peel are usually around the nose and mouth, but can begin anywhere. Most people begin peeling on the 3rd or 4th day after treatment. It is also possible to not peel at all. If this occurs, you will still benefit from the treatment because the skin has exfoliated microscopically.
Possible side effects include but are not limited to: mild to extreme redness, temporary tightness, itching, swelling, and dryness of the skin similar to a sunburn or windburn. This will usually subside in 2-3 days. Over-the-counter hydrocortisone may be recommended if the skin is inflamed or irritated.
You may GENTLY apply a cold compress to the treated area(s) as needed for any burning or irritation associated with your treatment.
Make sure to avoid excessive heat on the treated area and direct sun exposure of any kind, as well as tanning beds and self-tanners to the treated areas for 4 weeks after treatment.
Do NOT engage in strenuous exercise for 2-3 days after treatment because it may exacerbate the inflammation and can cause your skin to become extremely inflamed.
Sweating excessively after treatment can irritate the skin or cause blistering due to the sweat being unable to escape through the top layer of dead skin. Try to avoid sweating until after you have stopped peeling to avoid lifting the skin prematurely, as this can cause scarring.
Do NOT use any acidic products such as retinoids or tretinoins, acne medication products such as Retin-AⓇ, TazoracⓇ, RenovaⓇ, AtralinⓇ, ZianaⓇ, VeltinⓇ, DifferinⓇ, the antibiotic Doxycycline, AHAs (lactic, glycolic, tartaric, etc.), BHAs (salicylic), benzoyl peroxide, vitamin C products, lightening agents such as hydroquinone or any exfoliative products including loofahs or coarse sponges to your skin for 2 weeks after your chemical peel, or more if you notice your skin becomes sensitive to application. These medications and products increase your photosensitivity, which can significantly increase the likelihood of complications.
Do NOT tweeze, pick, rub, exfoliate, wax, use a depilatory, undergo electrolysis, or schedule a facial or cosmetic service such as laser resurfacing, or IPL on a treated area(s) for 4 weeks after your treatment. To reduce the risk of scarring, you do not want to remove the dry, rough, dead skin faster than your body wants to.
Do NOT get your hair dyed until a week after you have finished peeling, if your treatment was performed on the face or neck. For most people, week 3 post-peel is the best time to have your hair color treated.
This procedure can stimulate cold sores. If you have an outbreak after your treatment, please call the office to inquire about obtaining a prescription. Please ask to speak with the esthetician, Alli.
Your skin may be fragile for 5-7 days. Cleanse your skin with COOL water (hot water will cause inflammation to the skin) using only your fingertips – no washcloths, loofahs, buff puffs, sponges, etc.
Letting the skin dry out may cause discomfort. For strong peels, you may use petroleum jelly for the first few days or as needed on sensitive areas that are peeling. When you start to peel, use a non-comedogenic moisturizer, until the skin feels back to normal. This will promote the healing process by locking in moisture and reducing the chance of a bacterial infection, redness, and irritation. Use these products several times per day or as needed. Topical hydrocortisone may be recommended, depending on your specific needs.
Heat and sun exposure can cause inflammation to the skin. Remember to avoid excessive heat on the treated area and direct sun exposure of any kind, as well as tanning beds and self-tanners to the planned treatment areas for 4 weeks after treatment. If you need to be outdoors, make sure to use an umbrella or wear a large-brimmed hat, a pair of sunglasses, and use a physical sunblock (containing zinc oxide and titanium dioxide). Both of these products provide broad-spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays with no chemical sun filters. Apply 30 minutes before exposure and reapply often (about every 2 hours) when exposed to the sun. Other sunscreen products may be recommended depending on your specific needs.
