What To Do Before Your Kybella Appointment

48 Hours Before Treatment

  • Avoid blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®), naproxen (Aleve®), fish oil, vitamin E, and certain herbal supplements (garlic, ginkgo, ginseng) to reduce the risk of bruising. If prescribed, consult with your doctor before discontinuing use.
  • Limit alcohol and caffeine, as both can increase swelling and bruising.
  • Stay hydrated and eat a well-balanced diet to support recovery.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds, as sunburned or irritated skin may increase sensitivity.
  • Reduce salt intake to help minimize swelling post-treatment.
  • Discontinue retinoids, acids, and exfoliating products that may increase skin sensitivity.

Day of Treatment

  • Arrive with clean skin—no makeup, lotion, sunscreen, or skincare products on the treatment area.
  • Wear comfortable clothing with a loose neckline to avoid irritation.
  • Eat a light meal before your appointment to avoid feeling lightheaded.
  • Plan for downtime, as swelling and tenderness are common post-treatment.

Medical Considerations

  • Notify us of any changes to your health, including a new diagnosis, pregnancy, or new medications. Some conditions and medications may not be compatible with Kybella, and adjustments to your treatment plan may be necessary.
  • If you have a history of difficulty swallowing, bleeding disorders, or recent cosmetic treatments in the area, inform your provider before your session.
  • If you are prone to cold sores (HSV-1 or HSV-2) and the treatment area is close to your lips, taking an antiviral medication 24-48 hours prior is recommended.
