What To Do Before Your Chemical Peel Appointment

One Week Before Treatment

  • Discontinue skincare products with actives such as retinoids, tretinoin (Retin-A®, Differin®, Tazorac®), benzoyl peroxide, and exfoliating acids (AHAs, BHAs, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and vitamin C). These products can increase skin sensitivity.
  • Avoid waxing, tweezing, threading, or using depilatory creams on the treatment area.
  • Stop using harsh scrubs or exfoliants that may cause irritation before your appointment.
  • Limit sun exposure and avoid tanning beds. If going outdoors, use SPF 30+ sunscreen daily.

Three Days Before Treatment

  • Keep your skin well-hydrated by applying a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturizer.
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine, as they can contribute to skin dehydration and sensitivity.
  • Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and promote healing.

The Day Before Treatment

  • Do not exfoliate or use any harsh cleansers on the skin.
  • Avoid heavy makeup or applying thick skincare products that could irritate the skin.
  • Get a good night’s sleep to allow your skin to be in its best condition for treatment.

The Day of Treatment

  • Arrive with a clean face—remove all makeup, lotions, and sunscreen before your appointment.
  • Avoid wearing perfume or cologne, as strong fragrances can irritate sensitive skin.
  • If prone to cold sores, take an antiviral medication as prescribed to prevent an outbreak.
  • Wear comfortable clothing if treating areas other than the face, ensuring nothing will rub against the skin post-treatment.
