What to Do Before and After Morpheus8 Appointment
What to Do Before Morpheus8 Appointment
One Week Before Treatment
- Discontinue active skincare products, including retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C, benzoyl peroxide, and other exfoliating ingredients that may increase skin sensitivity.
- Stop anticoagulants 7-10 days prior to treatment, if medically permitted.
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure and tanning beds to prevent irritation and minimize the risk of post-treatment hyperpigmentation. Always wear SPF 30+ sunscreen.
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, which helps support skin healing.
48 Hours Before Treatment
- If prone to cold sores, take an antiviral medication 24-48 hours before treatment to prevent an outbreak.
- Limit alcohol and caffeine intake, as these can contribute to inflammation and prolonged healing.
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements, including aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®), naproxen (Aleve®), fish oil, and vitamin E, unless prescribed by your doctor.
- Refrain from waxing, tweezing, threading, or using hair removal creams on the treatment area to avoid additional irritation.
Day of Treatment
- Arrive with clean skin—do not apply makeup, lotion, sunscreen, or any skincare products.
- Wear comfortable clothing, especially if treating areas beyond the face.
- Avoid shaving the treatment area on the same day, as this can cause irritation.
- Eat a light meal before your appointment to avoid feeling lightheaded.
- Inform your provider of any recent health changes, including new medications, pregnancy, or skin conditions, as some may affect your eligibility for treatment.
By following these pre-treatment guidelines, you will help ensure a comfortable and effective session. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Azure Dream MedSpa before your appointment.
What To Do After Your Morpheus8 Appointment
First 24 Hours
- Keep the treated area clean and avoid touching it unnecessarily.
- Do not apply makeup, sunscreen, or skincare products other than those specifically recommended by your provider.
- Avoid applying any product to the treated area that would not be suitable for an open wound. If possible, refrain from applying any products for the first 12-24 hours, as the treatment creates open channels in the skin. Applying the wrong products during this period can increase the risk of allergic reactions, prolonged healing, excessive swelling, and granulomas.
- Use lukewarm water to cleanse the skin and gently pat dry with a clean towel. Avoid scrubbing.
- Cooling the skin with cold compresses can help reduce discomfort and excessive skin response.
- Expect redness, mild swelling, and sensitivity, similar to a sunburn. These effects typically subside within 24-48 hours.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat, including hot showers, saunas, and intense workouts.
- Prophylactic antiviral therapy should be continued for patients with history of cold sores (Herpes Simplex) when treating around the mouth.
First 48-72 Hours
- Apply a gentle, hydrating moisturizer once the craters begin to close (1-3 days after treatment) to maintain hydration and aid healing.
- Use only mild, non-irritating skincare products. Avoid retinoids, acids, exfoliants, and active ingredients until your provider advises otherwise.
- Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water to support skin recovery.
- Continue avoiding excessive sun exposure and always wear a wide-brimmed hat when outside.
- Once the skin has healed (1-3 days), you may resume using sunscreen and makeup.
First Week
- Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+), preferably a physical sunblock with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Reapply throughout the day if exposed to the sun.
- Avoid picking, peeling, or scrubbing the skin as it heals to prevent irritation or scarring.
- No aggressive facial treatments or exfoliation until cleared by your provider.
- Mild dryness and flaking are normal as the skin regenerates.
What to Expect Over Time
- Downtime varies from 1-5 days, depending on treatment depth and energy level used. Some patients experience minimal visible skin response while still achieving long-term results.
- Days 1-3: Tiny scabs may appear and stay for several days following treatment. The scabs should not be touched or scratched even if they itch and should be allowed to flake off naturally.
- Days 1-3: Blisters may appear and can be treated with antibiotic ointment or burn treatment cream as recommended by your provider.
- Days 3-5: Skin may feel dry or tight as collagen production begins.
- Week 1: Initial healing is complete, and the skin appears more radiant.
- Weeks 2-4: Full collagen remodeling occurs, and skin continues to improve in texture and tone.
- Recommended treatment plan: Most patients require 1-4 sessions spaced 3-6 weeks apart, followed by maintenance treatments as needed.
